Not Quite Boot Camp
Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:14 pm by Drew
I don't know that anyone will read this, but I'm going to say it anyway...
Starting Sunday, I'm getting off my butt and doing what I'm supposed to. For the past three weeks, I've been getting up early and going to the gym, but I haven't followed it up with cardio and diet. (Cardio - no excuse. Diet - its been a bit hectic)
So I'm making a public commitment to do better for at least the next …

Come Run With Us

Marcus and I did the Walt Disney World half marathon on January 9. We both had done a half marathon before, but never in such a large group.
The run was great. It started outside EPCOT, ran over Disney roads, then through the Magic Kingdom (including running through Cinderella's castle), and back to EPCOT.

Boot Camp is Over. Now What?
Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:53 pm by Drew
One of the worst things about boot camp is when it ends. Yes, it is wonderful to not have people yelling at you to "Hold Plank!!" for an hour, but what do you do after that in order to not lose the progress you made?
Let's get some ideas, people!

A Shot of Motivation for those in need
Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:04 pm by Drew
A couple thoughts to motivate you in the hard times.
If you quit when things get hard, you will never realize exactly what you can do and how far you can go.
The saying goes "Pain is weakness leaving the body." I'd like to add that pain is also a way to remember that you were built for more than eating and sitting. I remember some of the days that were the hardest and I HATED …

Confession Corner
Fri Apr 09, 2010 4:01 pm by Drew
Okay, so I did boot camp last year. Three of them, in fact. Since then... let's just say I fell off the wagon and haven't tried to catch it till recently.
I went from 270 (1/09) to 237 (8/09), mostly because of boot camp. However, after August, I have done very little, except run occassionally. I'm back around 255. I CONFESS!!
I know that I am not the only one. Someone else 'fess up. …

You just need to eat more than celery. Clamydia, no more spaghetti dinners. You are all crazy. I really had to dig deep to come up with this crazy workout and you guys dominated it. Rock on …

The run was great. It started outside EPCOT, ran over Disney roads, then through the Magic Kingdom (including running through Cinderella's castle), and back to EPCOT.
While it was fun, it would have been better in two ways: 1. not be so stinking cold (seriously, ice came down on us the entire time) and 2. if there had been a bigger group. While we can't do anything about the weather, we can try to get a group together to participate in some of the runs coming up this year and into next year.
When I say "runs" coming up, that doesn't mean that you actually have to run the entire time. I can't literally run for 13.1 miles. What I can do is finish in time. And so can you.
If you are interested, let us know. We'd like to get a "running (walking) club" together.
Lastly, I'm going to leave you with this. It is the BEST thought and I am going to try to contact the group to see if we can steal..er..use it.

running group
I agree with Drew. I did not do this past Disney Half Marathon, only because I was too slow to register and got closed out. Although, I was thankful that day, because I dont tolerate the wintery weather very well. Moved here to get away from it! I did, however, do the Disney Princess Half Marathon last March and plan to do it again this March. I also did the Vero Beach Half Marathon in October along with Marcus, Drew, and several other past and present boot campers. Most of us had never run a race before boot camp. Many of us had never run at all, like me. I used to cry just trying to make it 1/4 of the way around the building. I never thought I would even make one mile, never mind 13.1! If you told me that 2 years later, I would be training for my third half marathon, I would have told you you were stinking nuts! But, here I am and so can you be. Drew is right, last to finish is better than not to finish or not to even start or try! I have always done my races by myself because I have never had anyone to run with and I agree a bigger group would be great and a lot more fun. I am sick of running alone, so I would welcome a running group as well. Let me know what to do. I would love that. Anyone who thinks they cant do it, you can. We never thought we could either, but we had lots of great people encouraging us and not letting us give up and we are here to do the same for you. Welcome! Robin

Princess 1/2 Marathon in March
Not sure if men traditionally do the Princess 1/2 Marathon but they probably cannot tell you no?? I am training for that one right now, did it last March and it was great!!! Would love a running group that met a few times a week and did some long (and slow) runs!!! I usually just do it by myself.... much more fun with someone to talk to! Boot camp and some long runs sounds just about perfect!!!!

princess half marathon
Yes, men do the princess, but dont know how many want to, LOL. I thought it was all women, too, but when I went last March, I saw quite a few men. One was all dressed in princess costume running with his wife, what a sport! I am going this year again, too. I have always done it all on my own, too, but it is getting old.

Disney Half Marathon
Can't agree with you all more I started my journey into the 1/2 marathons last January in the Disney 1/2. Not in a million years would I have ever thought about walking/running one mile for that matter! After losing weight in a few bootcamps I decided to give it a try. I trained with a group of friends doing intervals and was able to complete the 2009 Disney 1/2 marathon in 2 hours and 45 minutes.Woo hoo! That was only the beginning. I had the "running bug". If there is such a thing. Hah! We then completed the Princess 1/2 marathon (2:29) in March, Indian River County Healthy Start 1/2 in October (2:17), and the latest was this years Disney 1/2 with my PR 2:15! Yay:) I have to agree with Drew that the only downfall this year was the weather. It was by far the worst weather I have ever run in! Haha! The next 1/2 marathon I hope to do is in Key West. Most importantly we all here can relate that we never would've seen ourselves finishing a 1/2 marathon until doing bootcamp!! Nothing in life worth having is easy so it's time to get to work!

half marathon
You are right Ashley, you do catch a bug, LOL. I give you guys so much credit though for running in that weather. I have talked to people who have done so many marathons and they all say it was the worst weather ever. I have a new respect for the people up in Boston who train out there all winter! I cant deal with the cold, it makes me cough and it hurts my chest. I did a turkey trot like that one time and ended up totally sick. I was actually happy in the end that I took too long to register and got closed out of it. I am going to the Princess in March and can only hope for a time as good as yours. You get better every time, which is awesome. I did 2:53 the first time and 2:40 the second time, so hoping to at least break 2:30, but 2:15 would be better. But, anyway, you are right. None of us believed we could ever do sucha thing and here we are talking about it to everyone. So, the moral of the story is never say cant. Not allowed in bootcamp anyway. Just do what they tell ya and make it happen. You have the power inside you. We all will believe in you until you are able to do it yourself. We were all there. Like Paula always tell me, it is 90% mental and the rest is in your head, ha! Robin

Running Club
Hi! I am a new runner/walker and would really enjoy a running club. I recently participated in the Disney 1/2 marathon and although the weather was a drag... it was such a huge accomplishment.
Let me know about any updates with starting a running/walking club.
Feb 28, 10k here in Vero... nice change from a 5k!

running
Hi Jessica and welcome,
I heard it was your first half marathon and you did a really great time, congratulations. Nothing like the feeling that accomplishment gives you. I will be doing the same 10K in Feb. Hope to see you there. I know what you mean. I get tired of being by myself all the time. I had a running partner back at the beginning, but she went back to work during the day, so I lost her! Robin

sunday run
Hi Barb,
That sounds great. I do that route every sunday anyway, just usually later on. I will see if I can make it that early if you all wouldnt mind. BTW, that is a really nice picture of you. I couldnt figure out how to upload a picture. Robin
